AUTO 2492 - Maintenance & Light Repair (mlr) Lab


Credit Hours: 3.00
(5 contact hrs)
This course provides laboratory experience in servicing automotive electrical, engine, and air conditioning systems and emphasizes electrical, engine, and air conditioning repair procedures. All labs follow the NATEF (ASE) task list. South Campus.

OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES
Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to diagnose and service the electrical system using the NATEF standards.

Objectives: The student will:

  1. Check for parasitic battery load.
  2. Service wiring and wiring connectors.
  3. Inspect, test, and diagnose a battery.
  4. Inspect, test, and diagnose a starting system.
  5. Replace a starter motor.
  6. Inspect, test, and diagnose a charging system.
  7. Replace an alternator.
  8. Replace and aim headlights.
  9. Diagnose lighting system problems.

Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to diagnose and service an air conditioning system using NATEF standards.

Objectives: The student will:

  1. Diagnose an air conditioning system.
  2. Diagnose heating and air conditioning control system.
  3. Recover refrigerant and evacuate and recharge air conditioning system.
  4. Manage refrigerant and maintain refrigerant handling equipment.
  5. Inspect and service heater components.
  6. Replace engine coolant.

Outcome 3: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to perform engine service work.

Objectives: The student will:

  1. Perform general engine diagnosis.
  2. Diagnose and repair intake manifold leak.
  3. Diagnose and repair timing belt.
  4. Diagnose and repair lubrication and cooling systems

    4. Perform compression test; determine necessary actions per NATEF standard
