PSYC 2911 - Forensic Psychology


This course will explore the application of psychological research and practice in relation to the criminal justice and legal systems. Topics include antisocial personality, mental illness and crime, substance abuse and crime, victimology, types of offenders, sexual crimes, white-collar crime, eye-witness testimony, insanity defense and competency to stand trial, capital murder and the death penalty, jury selection, sentencing and police interrogation. The varying ways in which the criminal justice system processes, treats and interacts with the different types of offenders will also be discussed. (3 contact hrs)
