ATAP 2914 - Modular Tooling Systems

ATAP-2914 is a lecture and lab course covering shop floor standardization driven by palletization in efforts to reduce setup time in today’s competitive manufacturing setting. Erowa pallets fall under the Modular Tool System (MTS) architecture and are the focal point of this course, assembled in SolidWorks, followed by hands-on pallet setup in the lab. Palletization is the driving force behind many complementary shop floor standards, such as probing for work and tool length offsets, building CAD libraries of machine tools, pallets, standard tooling, standard workpieces, and fixtures. The student will have a comprehensive understanding of how to reduce setup time by automating much of the process to better compete with local and global forces. This course prepares students for shop floor automation by first developing standards. (2 contact hrs) South Campus.
